How to display different types of markers?
Features of removing marks from a felt-tip pen depend on its type. There are 3 types:
- water based,
- on alcohol
- in oil.
To achieve optimal results, you need to use the right products.
Water based
Water-based markers are the easiest to remove. Despite the fact that they have bright, rich colors, their pigment is easy to wash off with various liquids. The first aid remedy is hydrogen peroxide.
Procedure:
- A small amount of peroxide is poured into a suitable container.
- Dip a cotton swab in it and carefully follow the marker mark with it.
- The coloring pigment from the paper will transfer to the cotton wool.
- Wait until the surface dries and repeat the procedure again.
If the felt-tip pen was applied over a large area and in significant quantities, it is better to use a cotton pad instead of a cotton swab.
Mode of application:
- soak a cotton pad in bleach and squeeze it out;
- apply the product to the stain, blot several times;
- leave until completely dry;
- if necessary, repeat the procedure again.
If a child draws a picture on washable wallpaper, then you can remove his creation using a soap solution. A clean rag is soaked in it and the stained area is treated. As a basis for the detergent composition, you can use laundry soap, dishwashing detergent, and even ordinary powder.
With alcohol - how to remove it?
Alcohol markers have several distinctive features:
- They leave bright marks on any surface.
- They give off a characteristic smell of alcohol.
- Traces from such markers dry out quickly.
Based on the characteristics of the markers, substances are selected to remove them. The simplest and most effective remedy is alcohol-based liquids. This could be vodka, pure medical alcohol, glass liquid, or even cologne.
They are used as follows:
- soak a cotton pad in the selected composition;
- carefully treat contaminants with it, trying not to go beyond its boundaries;
- allow the product to dry on its own;
- repeat the procedure if the stain was not removed the first time.
Acetone-based solvents have a good effect. It is not recommended to use it in its pure form, since not every paper can withstand contact with a caustic agent. Soak a cotton pad with the liquid and gently wipe the stain. You need to work with compounds containing acetone indoors with the windows open.
You can get rid of stains left by an alcohol marker using lemon juice. Mode of application:
- Squeeze a small amount of juice into a bowl.
- Soak a gauze or cotton sponge in it.
- Soak the contaminated area.
- Blot it with a napkin several times.
- Let the paper dry.
Mode of application:
- slightly moisten the paper;
- apply toothpaste to it;
- leave for 2 minutes;
- remove the composition with a cotton pad.
During processing, it is important to ensure that the paste does not dry out.
How to remove oily ones?
Oil markers are distinguished by the fact that the ink in them is very thick. They leave behind clear marks, the dye from which is deeply absorbed into the surface. Oil markers should not be confused with oil paints.
Paints are easily washed off with water and other liquids, so paintings based on them require additional processing. Oil markers can only be removed with special compounds.
Means No. 1 – gasoline. To remove stains, use purified gasoline intended for refilling lighters. Procedure:
- Soak a cotton pad or light-colored cloth with the liquid.
- Blot the felt-tip pen stain with it several times.
- Walk over the surface with a soapy solution and then with clean water.
This method is only suitable for paper that is not susceptible to repeated wetting.
Remedy No. 2 – hot iron. To get rid of a bright pattern, proceed in the following way:
- use a spray bottle to moisten the wall; for a better effect, you can add lemon juice in equal proportions to the water;
- apply a clean white napkin to the paper;
- pass over it with a hot iron;
- repeat the procedure several times.
If this method does not completely remove the marker stain, it will at least make it less noticeable.
Procedure:
- Soak a cotton pad with white spirit.
- Wipe the contaminated area.
- Treat it with a damp cloth.
White spirit is not used to clean painted wallpaper, as the pattern may disappear under the influence of the solvent.
You can use a melamine sponge to clean thick paper. It will partially absorb the dye, making the stain less noticeable.
What should you not do?
Recommendations that should not be violated:
- Do not rub the stain too hard - intense mechanical impact on the paper will lead to its damage;
- You should not try to remove stains from water markers in direct sunlight, their pigment is poorly destroyed by ultraviolet radiation;
- Do not try to remove the stain with a hard brush. It will only tear the paper;
- You should not rub the stain, performing random movements - you need to process it in the direction from the edge to the center, this is done so as not to stain clean areas with dye.
Helpful information
Removal Tips felt-tip pens from different surfaces:
- Cotton pads need to be changed as they become dirty. If you continue processing with the same sponge, the mark from the felt-tip pen will spread.
- You need to start removing stains and patterns immediately after they are discovered, before the pigment has time to be deeply absorbed into the surface.
- Before using a new product for the first time, you need to test it on an inconspicuous area.
- To prevent the marker stain from spreading and staining clean areas, its borders can be outlined with a light wax candle. After processing, the trace of it is erased with a stationery eraser.
Conclusion
Getting rid of marker marks on paper is easy if you use the right product. Its choice depends on what substance is used to refill the marker. Water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based office supplies each have their own effective cleaning compounds.
