How to clean a glass surface?
Let's look at various stains on glass and how to eliminate them:
From polyurethane foam
Polyurethane foam quickly and reliably attaches to the surface it hits. It will not be possible to remove it from the glass with water or soapy water. You can cope with the task using a solvent.
Instructions for use:
- Paint thinner is applied to the fabric.
- It is used to treat stained areas.
- Leave the foam to soak for 15-30 minutes. If the solvent dries out, repeat the treatment.
- Carefully scrape off the softened foam with a plastic spatula.
- Wash the glass with soapy water and then with clean water.
For processing, you can use any solvent:
- acetone,
- white spirit,
- turpentine,
- solvent R-4, 646, 650,
- xylene
All of them are equally effective against polyurethane foam.
How to remove silicone?
Silicone that gets on glass is difficult to clean, and after a short time it becomes covered with dust and turns yellow. To remove it without residue, use kerosene or Galosh gasoline.
Procedure:
- moisten a rag suitable for work with gasoline;
- apply the cleaning solution to contaminated areas;
- leave the sealant to soften for half an hour;
- remove the composition using a wooden or plastic scraper;
- Wipe the area with a clean damp cloth.
Dried adhesive film
The dried adhesive film adheres firmly to the surface. To scrub it off, it will take time and the use of two cleaning substances at once: vegetable oil and soap solution.
Procedure:
- Soak a cotton pad in vegetable oil.
- Wipe the contaminated area with it. The procedure is repeated until the film comes off completely. During operation, it will roll off, so the disk will have to be changed several times.
- Prepare a solution based on laundry soap shavings. Wipe the treated glass with it.
- Rinse the surface with clean water and treat with a dry paper towel.
This method may seem labor-intensive, but in reality it does not take more than 10-15 minutes. Its main advantage is safety for the glass surface.
water stone
Water stone spoils the appearance of glass, making it cloudy and opaque. Under no circumstances should you try to clean it with a hard brush. It will not be possible to completely remove the stone in this way, but it will scratch the surface.
Instructions for effectively and safely cleaning glass from deposits:
- 25 g of citric acid are dissolved in 500 ml of warm water;
- the prepared solution is poured into a spray bottle and the glass is irrigated with it;
- leave to act for an hour; as the product dries, the surface must be moistened;
- After an hour, the glass is washed and wiped with a dry cloth.
Condensation in double glazing
If condensation accumulates between the glass panes in a double-glazed unit, you will not be able to remove it on your own. The reason for the appearance of moisture is a violation of the tightness of the structure.
This occurs due to improper installation of the window, or due to a manufacturing defect.
It will not be possible to cope with such a problem with improvised or special means, you must contact the company that sold and installed double-glazed windows.
It will not be possible to disassemble and repair the structure yourself without special knowledge and tools.
Primer
After repair work, dried primer often remains on the glass. If fresh stains are easy to deal with with plain water, then it will take some effort to remove old stains.
Procedure:
- Dissolve dishwashing detergent in water and apply it to the dried stain.
- After 10 minutes, the primer is moistened with acetone. Leave for another 10 minutes.
- Using a sharp blade, the stains are carefully removed.
- Wipe the glass with a clean damp cloth.
Cement from glass
Cured cement can be removed with acetic acid. It is harmful to concrete, but safe for glass.
Mode of application:
- put gloves on your hands;
- moisten a sponge or rag in table vinegar;
- apply it to the stain, leave for 30 minutes, the main thing is not to let the acid dry out, for this it needs to be renewed periodically;
- Remove softened cement with a plastic scraper and wipe with a damp cloth.
To prevent the vinegar from evaporating quickly, the procedure should be carried out in cool weather, when the window is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Sun foil
You can remove sun foil from glass using white spirit. Use it as follows:
- Apply the composition to a cotton pad or a clean soft cloth.
- Treat the area where the foil is glued.
- Leave for 15 minutes to reduce its adhesion to the surface.
- Remove with a non-metallic sharp object, for example, a wooden scraper.
If you don’t have a solvent at hand, you can use a soap solution, but to completely remove the foil you will have to put in more effort, repeating the procedure at least 2 times.
Rust
You can remove rust from glass using Coca-Cola. This drink effectively dissolves scale.
Use it as follows:
- the drink is poured into a spray bottle;
- spray it onto the glass surface;
- leave for an hour;
- Wipe the treated area with a clean damp cloth.
If necessary, the procedure is repeated, increasing the exposure time. Fanta and Sprite have a similar effect.They contain acid that oxidizes rust and effectively dissolves it.
Soot and soot
Soot and carbon deposits firmly settle on glass surfaces. It is difficult to remove this film with classic detergents. To completely remove it, use ammonia and vinegar.
Mode of application:
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of ammonia and the same amount of table vinegar in 0.5 liters of water.
- Spray the glass generously with the solution and wait 3 minutes.
- Remove the product with a paper towel.
- Rinse the area with clean water and wipe dry again.
Since ammonia has a pungent odor, you need to work with it in a well-ventilated area. The floor is covered with newspapers or a rag so that the flowing liquid does not harm the coating.
Candle wax
The easiest and fastest way to remove wax from glass is to melt it with a hair dryer.. A stream of warm air is directed at the frozen spot, holding the device at a distance of 20-30 cm. You need to have a thick paper napkin ready, which is used to remove the melted wax.
Remains of the product are removed with a damp cloth. In case of severe contamination, you can use a soap solution.
If the wax has hardened on a small item, such as a glass candlestick, you can cool it by placing it in the freezer. Cold holding time – 1 hour. After freezing, the wax is easily peeled off any sharp object.
Masking tape
If the masking tape is left on the glass surface for a long time, it will adhere tightly, making it difficult to remove.
You can cope with the task in the following way:
- Dissolve a tablespoon of soda in 250 ml of warm water;
- moisten the sponge generously in the resulting solution;
- process the tape and leave for 10 minutes;
- repeat the procedure;
- Clean off any remaining softened material with an old toothbrush.
If the section of tape is small, you can use a school eraser and a blade. Use the sharp side to remove the top layer of tape, and rub the sticky layer with an elastic band.
Plasticine
You should not try to wash plasticine off glass with water. It will only lead to its smearing on the surface. You can deal with sticky material using an alcohol-containing liquid.
Procedure:
- Using a thick paper napkin, remove the main layer of plasticine.
- Apply an alcohol-containing liquid (perfume or vodka) to a cotton pad.
- Wipe the surface until it is clean. During operation, the disks will have to be changed several times.
- Wipe the glass with a clean, damp cloth.
Tinting
You can remove tinting from glass mechanically. To do this, use a regular blade.
They use it to pry up the edge of the film and pull it towards themselves. However, after such treatment there will still be sticky marks on the glass.
You can get rid of glue using ammonia. It is applied to a cotton pad and targeted at small areas. Complete the procedure by washing the glass with soapy water. Details - in this article.
Limescale
Limescale reacts with acids, so you can use vinegar or citric acid to remove it. The product is dissolved in warm water and applied to the glass for at least 40 minutes.
If the layer of limescale is dense, acid is used in combination with soda. First, the surface is sprinkled with powder, after which it is irrigated with vinegar. When the reaction is complete, the solution is washed off with clean water. Will tell you in more detail this article.
Fogging from car windows
If the car windows fog up, they can be treated with a glycerin-based solution. It is diluted with alcohol in a ratio of 1:10. If glycerin is applied in its pure form, the glass will become greasy and will reflect strongly at night.
Details - in this publications.
Air from under the protective glass
The air accumulated under the protective glass of the smartphone is removed using a plastic card, which is used to push the bubbles to the edge.
If this method is not effective, lift the glass and pass a fishing line under it, along with which the air will come out.
You can cope with the problem using silicone gel, which fills the existing cavities. Remove excess product with a soft cloth.
During the procedure, you need to ensure that dust and dirt do not get under the glass. Read more in this material.
Water (moisture) from under the film on the phone screen
The most effective way to get rid of water trapped under the protective glass is to warm it up. For this purpose, use a hair dryer or table lamp.. The main thing is to remove the battery before heat treatment.
If the bubbles are small, you can simply download any active game to your phone. 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted operation of the device is enough for the battery to heat up and the liquid to evaporate. Will tell you in more detail this publication.
Conclusion
It is not difficult to clean glass from stains, even if they belong to the category of difficult to remove stains. The main thing is to use the right product and follow the instructions. During the processing process, we must not forget about safety measures, protecting the skin of the hands and respiratory organs.
